Placing Wood Flooring Over Tile - Ceramic or porcelain tile flooring is extremely durable and an excellent investment in your house. Tiles will continue forever when they are taken care of, and virtually never wear out.
You will need to remove all of the molding and baseboards. Remove any existing floor coverings, carpeting, or wooden floorings. Clean the subfloor it's free of dust and debris. Make sure that the floor is sturdy and stable. Install cement backer board onto the stabilized floor and the backer board in with 2 inches, at each floor joist screw galvanized screws. The old flooring will have to be disposed of, and such items are not picked up by most garbage services.
Use a chalk line to indicate two lines that intersect at the center of the area. Be sure that the lines are square to each other (90 degrees). Put a row of tiles along both lines on the floor that was dry. Put spacers between the tiles, leaving enough room. Look at the way the tiles are arranged; you need as many entire tiles in the centre as possible. Fiddle with the tile before you are pleased with the way they may be positioned.
Use thin set to hold your tiles in place. Make use of a notched trowel. Distribute the thin-set only to as far as it is possible to reach and place a tile. Install your tiles to the inset having a firm downward pressure. Don't forget to place spacers between the tiles. You're able to tap the tile gently to be sure that it's in place. The cut tiles and border tiles are installed last.
